Ju-jitsu in Europe

Community of ju-jitsu enthusiasts

I am not an expert on history of ju-jitsu. I have read sources about history and development of ju-jitsu, but these are only second hand interpretations. Therefore I will discuss how I feel about ju-jitsu and what it means to me. I have been training for 16 years and during this time attended many seminars, trained with different masters and experienced also other martial arts (BJJ, kraw maga, shotokan karate, aikikai aikido, judo).

At first it was very clear. Ju-jitsu was a sport that I have been training almost every day, sometimes also twice a day. The goal was very clear - to win. I did win. In fighting and duo-system. Several times. I qualified in the national team 3 times, but Fortuna left and Mr. Murphy came to visit me each time. Injuries stopped me each time. I was persistent and continued training, but with time sport simply wasn't enough. Ever since I am looking for an answers about ju-jitsu and discovering that it is endless journey. As already mentioned I have trained also other martial arts thereby trying to close the gap that suddenly appeared when I decided to stop competing. It was a step in the right direction and I have learned a lot, but it is not what I was looking for. I would like to find out more about traditiona styles of ju-jitsu (ryu).

My understandig of ju-jitsu is that includes kobudo, which is almost completely left out in modern ju-jitsu. I belive that there are many tecniques and katas, that we already forgot, because they are not adequate for sport fighting.

My question is the following. Which traditional ju-jitsu styles would you recommend and if possible some suggestions about clubs, where I could join in. Good start is always a weekend seminar or shorter uchi deishi program. I am from Slovenia, which should also be taken into consideration. Since I am member of Slovenian Ju-jitsu Federation and in responsible for organisation of seminars, we could invite jutsuka to join as at seminars and present their styles.

I am new at this, but it's a start.
